Besides working, being with my family & friends, and my church, about the only other thing I really make time for is photography. I dabbled in photography years ago, when I could afford to pay to have the film developed. However, that fell by the wayside when mortgage payments had to be paid, diapers had to be bought, and all the other stuff that drains the bank account dry every month got in the way of hobbies.
I must admit that I was a film snob....no digital cameras for me. However, my thoughts changed when I actually tried a one. At this point I'm on my second digital camera as I wore the first one out.
I never thought myself to be very creative and yet photography has opened a whole new world for me. I look at things differently and it has become a passion for me.
I'm even using my photography as a fundraiser for a children's hospital in Kenya. I've been making greeting cards from my photos and part of the proceeds are donated to the Bethany Kids organization in Kejabe. Here's the link to the hospital. They do some pretty amazing work there.
As I'm curious to see if I can meet the challenge of including a picture on this blog I'll now give it a try. This past Mother's Day weekend was perfect photo taking weather and so you can imagine how I spent part of my time. The picture I chose isn't one I took recently but rather one I took last year in Rochester. It is a statue of a horse that stands on the lawn of the George Eastman House. George Eastman, the founder of Kodak, donated his house and it has become a museum of film and photography, a theatre, a social museum and it also has the most amazing gardens. I'm going again at the end of this month and I cannot wait. Currently there is an Ansel Adams exhibit and that will be a wonderful experience....a chance of a lifetime. Here are the links for both the museum and the Adams exhibit:
Ah, back to the horse. Do you remember several years ago there were many life sized fibreglass moose standing around Toronto. Different companies and corporations would purchase a moose and then design or decorate them as they chose. My personal favourite was the one designed by the Canadian Opera Company, but I digress. In Rochester they decided to use horses instead of moose, cows, etc. as other cities had done. This horse stands on the lawn of Eastman House and has been paired with a large box camera. It is white on the other side, naturally.

Nice work...you were successful with including the photo.
Now that we finally have a digital camera...will you consider giving artistic digital lessons? I know how precious free time can be!
